Adnan Syed of @Serial first season fame gets a new trial. Given the way his attorney botched the first one, he deserves it.

But I still think he killed Hae Min Lee. 

I say why in this blog post, which I put up during the series. Briefly, the case recalls for me another cause célèbre: the Edgar Smith case. Like many convinced by media attention at the time, I believed Smith was innocent. After his retrial, and a negotiated lesser conviction that set him free, Smith tried to kill again, got caught, and confessed to the original crime as well.

All of this is irrelevant to the Syed case, of course.

The lesson for me is not about  the case itself, but about how easily even the most complete story-telling can be dead wrong.
